As Justin dropped the tire pressure on the side of the road, to cope with the corrugations on the sandy road to Cape Leveque, he thought he spied Nick and Shirley's rig pass us. We originally met them at the campfire at Manning Gorge. They were stopped further along for morning tea on the side of the road so we pulled in for a chat. They had been in Derby for 5 days getting new CV boots fitted to their front suspension. They had done the horizontal falls seaplane adventure Justin was keen on, so he got the low down on all that the tour involves. It may still be possible for him to get on this flight/ boat trip/ shark feeding extravaganza before we leave the Dampier Peninsular. We left Nick and family to their morning tea and headed for Beagle Bay. There is a church with a beautiful altar here, so we took the small detour.
This is the whitest thing I've seen in the outback apart from a lady's skirt on the Yellow Water Billabong cruise. She got on board the boat in a pristine white skirt and heels, not my idea of adventurous living! The Shumacks only made her look cleaner.
This Catholic Church is decorated with Mother of Pearl shell found in the bay. The colours are lovely and an unusual choice for a church.
Below is the altar and a detail of it.
Apart from a massive drop off after leaving the bitchumen strip we didn't slow down enough for, we got to Cape Leveque easily enough. We checked in, then decoupled the trailer quickly at our beachside site to share the sunset with Nick and Shirley. Phoebe interacted with their children, Caitlin and Jessica, making a moat while the adults enjoyed the sunset.
It was a glorious end to the day.
