Day 12 - Coward Springs to Coober Pedy.

As we didn't have so far to go today, we had a leisurely morning packing up, and had time for a swim in the semi natural spa.

They have boxed off an area that is fed from a bore drilled in the 1800's. The water comes from the Artesian Basin, fed from rivers in QLD.

I felt salty and refreshed for our drive to Coober Pedy. At William Creek we enquired about flights across Lake Eyre, but even the one hour flight was outrageously priced, especially for five. We did see the lower section of the lake on our way to Coward Springs, so at least we can say we saw it flooded in our lifetime. We arrived in Coober Pedy around 4 pm and chose the Stuart Range Caravan Park as recommended by Elph and Bob. Funnily enough, it was full of caravans, some enormous. Justin even heard one van running a washing machine! All our previous sites were off the beaten track so it wasn't so caravan-centric. It was nice to be in a site a little less rustic. Phoebe and I heard one grey nomad commenting on how they had arrived so late the previous day, 4.30! Phoebe and I had a chuckle about that because the first time we arrived at that hour was a triumph.

The Old Ghan railway ran along this clear patch, the Coward Springs Station Master's house to the right.
