Day 19 - Uluru

Today we had another epic walk, this time around the dusty base of Uluru, 10.6 km in total. Another fantastic effort by the shorter legged people in our family.

There are a few cave paintings left around the rock in some shallow caves. It looks like a few have been rubbed off over the years, the below is the best example visible from the track.

This section is known as the brain, it's not hard to see why.

The shapes and colours change constantly as you walk around the rock, the shady section was particularly nice.

Plenty of people were climbing the rock, lots of sunscreen required on that trek, though we did spy some trees growing near the top of Uluru. The path that has been worn over the years is visible from the sunset viewing area. Between that, the 35 people who have died climbing the rock and the local Anganu people asking you not to climb, I wonder if they will close the climb permanently. Whatever brings in the most tourism dollars will win of course.

We will miss this rock and hope to come back.
