Day 56 - Mt Hart Wilderness Lodge to Windjana National Park.

John and Lyn were the first to leave this morning, followed by Tony and Joan. We said our farewells, they were all great company. As we were packing up slowly the man left to mind the gear wandered over and introduced himself. Neither Justin or I caught his name, but he called himself a TO, traditional owner, so we have referred to him as TO since. He told us a lot about himself and his family, and checked if we enjoyed our stay.

Passing through Napier Range, TO had told us to look out for Queen Victoria's head in the rock formation. See below for her image, to the right of the gap. Next to the range is Napier Downs. A dry looking cattle station.

We arrived at a particularly dry campsite at Windjana Gorge National Park, for two nights. Phoebe was charged with a message from Mark at Mt. Hart for Kelly. She used to work at Mt. Hart and is now a Ranger at Windjana. There was no sign of a Ranger or a Ranger station. We threw on our bathers and walked to Windjana Gorge. It was about three degrees cooler in the gorge.

We'd been told there were plenty of freshwater crocodiles in the river here, and we weren't disappointed.

In fact there were so many crocs we decided not to swim. The water was a bit on the nose in places, another inducement to stay dry. Eventually we cooled down towards sunset.

We finished the chicken thigh fillets we were given at Manning Gorge in a fried rice. Our food supplies are fairly low now.

  1. Seem to have been a good decision not to swim. These fishes seems that they would do more than nibble your toes. Even Georgina's scary noise would not be enough.
